The Compassion of God

“This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.  They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”

Lamentations 3:21-23

It can be difficult to find anyone or anything we can count on in the world around us today.  Even before the pandemic struck, we saw that the stock market may be high today and then crash tomorrow.  Our job may offer a promotion this week and then lay us off next week.  Even a good friend may desert us in a time of need.

Our great God offers a message of encouragement, reminding us in the passage above that we can have a confident hope in His faithfulness!

First, we can see God’s protection mentioned above.  God’s protects us from destruction with his mercy and loving kindness.  It is the Lord God whom we can trust for our daily protection and needs.  He never fails!

Second, we see that God’s compassion is described as never failing.  In Psalm 55, King David laments that a close friend of his had abused his trust and become an enemy.  He goes on, however, to say that he can rely on God because He saves him!

Third, we see the specific reminder above that God is as faithful as the morning sun.  We can count on His protection, compassion, and mercy even more than we can that the sun will come up tomorrow.  Those mercies are new and refreshed each day.

We can praise God today that He is completely worthy of our trust.  No matter what new virus may change our lives, what the economy may do, what may happen at work, or how a friend may act, we truly serve a great and perfect faithful God!

No School Tomorrow, March 12

Because we have used fewer than four snow days so far this winter, we will have a day off tomorrow, March 12.  This is a special day with no work-at-home assignments.  We want our students to have some time off in mid-March in the long stretch until Spring Break in April.

Our school office and all extended session will be closed tomorrow.  School will resume on a regular schedule on Monday, March 15.

Re-Enrollment

We recently sent home a packet of information on re-enrolling for the 2021-22 school year.  All families wishing to send their children back to LCA in Fall 2021 must complete the re-enrollment process.  If you need a copy of any of the paperwork, you can get that at our office or on our website or on Sycamore.

We hope you have found the program of LCA to be an encouragement as we partner with our parents to see God’s best in the lives of each student here.  It is our prayer that God will lead you to return this fall and continue to be a part of the ministry here.  Our curriculum is designed with a scope and sequence in which each year builds on the one before it, and we are confident your child will continue to grow through each passing school year.

Please remember that the re-registration fee must be paid at the time of re-enrollment.  (Until April 16, this fee is discounted to $90.)  If you have any questions about the re-enrollment process, please contact Mrs. Kettlewood in our school office.

Standardized Testing

Because of the reduced number of school days we have had this year and in an attempt to cut some costs, LCA will not be giving the Iowa standardized tests this April.  We are planning to resume this program in April 2022.  Please see us with any questions.

Virtual Open House

Each of our classes, from K3 through 6th grade, prepared and presented a virtual tour so that guests can get a feel for our classrooms without having to visit.  These video tours are available by visiting our school website at www.lcany.org.  We think you will be excited about what our students are learning and encourage you to take the time to view them.

If you know of any families that may be interested in the ministry of LCA, please have them call or email us.  We are scheduling individual tours of our building, generally during the school day, to help families see what our school can help them accomplish for their children.

We certainly hope to be able to get back to a more “normal” open house routine in March 2022!

Spirit Week

We have set aside next week, March 15-19, as Spirit Week here at LCA.  You should have received an email and a paper with much more information.  Each day of Spirit Week will have special themes for students to keep things lively and fun around the building.

Please be sure all clothes are modest and loose fitting during Spirit Week.  Remember that leggings may not be worn as outerwear at LCA.

Please be sure to follow the these for the day as closely as possible and contact your child’s teacher or the school office with any questions about how to dress for the day.

Busing Requests

If your family is planning to use public school busing services to LCA in the coming school year for children entering kindergarten (K5) through 12th grades, you must notify your district’s transportation office no later than April 1.  This is a hard deadline and requests made after this date will likely not be honored by your district.

We have some districts’ request forms available in our school office.  Please see Mrs. Kettlewood with any questions.

End-of-Year Changes

In a year full of changes, we are making some additional changes to our schedule.  To try to make up for some lost days, the final day for K3-K5 students will now be on Thursday, June 17, one week later than originally scheduled.

Please note the following program dates.  We hope that family will be able to attend these special programs:

K3-K4 End-of-Year Program – Thursday, June 10

K5 Graduation – Tuesday, June 15

Both programs will begin at 7:00 and be held in our church auditorium.

Picture Days

In just two weeks, we will have two additional opportunities for your child to be professionally photographed.  First, on Monday, March 22, all students will have a class picture taken.  Students should wear their regular uniforms for this picture, and Lifetouch will provide a complimentary copy to each student.

Second, on Tuesday, March 23, students may have their picture taken for Spring Picture Day.  Order forms will be sent home ahead of time, and students who choose to be photographed may dress up for these pictures.  (Students who are not purchasing a picture should wear their regular school uniforms.)

Please contact our school office with any questions about our Lifetouch school picture program.
