Spring Rain

“Ask ye of the Lord rain in the time of the [spring] rain; so the Lord shall make bright clouds, and give them showers of rain, to everyone grass in the field.”

Zechariah 10:1

It feels like our children are always growing and growing—along with our weekly grocery bill!  As their appetite increases, our children ask for greater amount of food at each meal.  While we as parents may miss the “Kid’s Meal” days, we would never think of denying our children the food they need to continue growing strong and healthy.

We can praise God that He also meets each need of His children.  He is the model of a loving parent, giving each one exactly what that person needs.

With all of the rain we have had this spring, we may easily forget how much of a blessing this water from heaven really is.  This verse uses the picture of spring rain to represent all of the blessings God showers down on His children as well as on the unbelievers.

The Old Testament prophet Zachariah makes the point above that our heavenly Father wants us to ask Him for those blessings, however.  While God does bless all people in so many ways by sending rain on the just and on the unjust, He wants us to recognize Him as the source of those blessings.  He promises to answer our prayers in greater ways than we could even imagine, but we are called on to ask.

Jesus Christ told us in Luke 11:9, “Ask, and it shall be given unto you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.”  We can rejoice today in the great blessing of God’s provision of answered prayer!
