God’s Awards

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith; henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”

2 Timothy 4:7-8

Here at the end of the school year, as we prepare to give awards, we are sometimes questioned about the wisdom and practicality of these recognitions.

Some will insist that young people should not be working for reward but for the internal desire to do their best, regardless of what they may receive.  It is interesting that the all-knowing God who created us also promises rewards, the crowns spoken of in the passage above.  While it certainly is true that every parent and teacher desires to instill a love of learning and a love of hard work, it seems that we were created with a built-in drive for recognition as well.

Some others will insist that every student should receive an award, regardless of achievement level.  From Scripture, we see that not everyone will receive this crown, only those who “love His appearing.”  While we are certainly concerned about students’ feeling of self-worth, we also recognize that rewarding those who have not earned that recognition provides a negative motivation and will end up eventually damaging the child’s sense of self-worth.  The biblical principle of recognizing achievement is certainly a wise precedent we seek to emulate here at LCA.

Our annual awards chapels and commencement exercises do seek to honor those who have earned that honor, but beyond that we want all we do to bring honor to our Savior, Jesus Christ.  1 Corinthians 10:31 teaches us, “Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.”  We trust our awards will always remain subservient to the goal of seeking God’s glory first and most of all.

Last Day of School

It may be hard to believe, but this school year is nearly complete and the last day of school is in sight!  K3, K4, and K5 students have their last day on Thursday, June 17.

Students in grades 1-12 have their last day on Friday, June 18, with a noon dismissal.  Please note that no extended session is available on June 18.  All students need to be picked up at noon.

K3-K5 Programs

Our kindergarten students have been working hard to prepare programs to present to their parents.  Please note that the dates are different than the ones posted in the original school calendar.

We hope that the families of our students will be able to celebrate with their students.

K3-K4 End-of-Year Program – Thursday, June 10

K5 Graduation – Tuesday, June 15

Both programs will begin at 7:00 and be held in our church auditorium with physical distancing and other safety measures in place to meet coronavirus transmission prevention protocols.

High School Commencement

LCA’s four seniors will be graduating at a special ceremony on Friday, June 18, at 7:00 PM in the church sanctuary of Latham Bible Baptist Church.  Pastor Guy Goodell from Greater Glens Falls Bible Baptist Church will be the honored speaker.  Although some distancing rules are still in place, we are inviting all of our school families to come out and celebrate with the seniors and their families.  The ceremony will also be live streamed on our school’s YouTube channel.

Re-Enrollment Reminder

As one school year ends, we are ramping up for another exciting year starting in September.  We hope your family will prayerfully consider joining us again this fall.  If you have not already re-enrolled for this fall, please see Mrs. Kettlewood in our school office for more information.

Some of the lower grades are filling up quickly, and we do not want any of our current families to be disappointed and miss a spot.

No child is automatically registered for the coming year.  We need to hear from you so we know your plans.  Please see Mrs. Kettlewood today to start the re-enrollment process!

Awards Chapels

Our elementary and secondary students will be receiving their awards on the last day of school, Friday, June 18.  Because of our COVID prevention protocols, each teacher will have her own awards chapel in our church sanctuary.  Please note the following schedule:

June 18, 9:00 – Mrs. Coonrod – 1st-2nd Grades

June 18, 9:45 – Mrs. Parker – 3rd-4th Grades

June 18, 10:30 – Mrs. Diggs – 5th-6th Grades

June 18, 11:00 – Mrs. Mansfield – 7th-12th Grades

These awards chapels will be recorded and posted to our school’s YouTube channel so that families can enjoy them and celebrate together even if they are not able to be here in person.

Final Report Cards

All LCA students will have a final report card issued to them and will be available at school starting on Thursday, June 24.  All families will receive an email reminder when these are ready.  They can be picked up during our regular office hours given below.

Families of K3, K4, and K5 students should also pick up their complementary DVDs, one with a video of their end-of-year program and another full of digital pictures taken throughout the school year.

Please remember that all financial accounts must be paid in full before report cards can be issued or records transferred to another school.

Summer Office Hours

Starting the week of June 21, our school office will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 until 2:00.  We always recommend making a quick call before stopping by so that you can be sure someone will be here to greet you.  Of course, you can always email us at office@lcany.org with any questions you may have, especially as we all plan for the 2021-22 school year together.
