Closer Than a Brother

“For he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”

Hebrews 13:5b

Through the centuries, saints have latched on to this great comforting verse of Scripture.  In spite of the great variety of activities of the summer months, for some people they can be some of the loneliest of times.

It does not have to be this way!  Scripture tells us in Proverbs 18:24 that “there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.”  Even if it seems like everyone else has that close friend while we are left at home alone and even when our children seem to have fewer friends than everyone else on our block, we can rest in confidence that we and they can always count on our Lord Jesus Christ to be with us.

At times, the circumstances of life seem to conspire to make life difficult and emotional.  We may be separated by distance or even death from a family member we had come to rely on.  An illness may make this separation even more challenging for us.  Again, we can confidently rest in the assurance that we have this great Friend in our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Perhaps it feels like even God is far from you, however.  We know that He always keeps His promises not to leave us and to be a friend who sticks closer than a brother.  Here at the start of the summer months, please take time to examine the most important relationship you have, the one with your God and His Son Jesus Christ.

If He feels far from you, consider whether you have ever asked Him to forgive your sins and come to live with you.  Romans 10:9 tell us, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

Once you invite this Friend to be with you, you can face the uncertain trials of life along with those inevitable times of loneliness knowing that you have a great and faithful Friend who will never leave you, no matter what!

Families of students in K5 through 11th grades will also receive results of the standardized testing the students took back in April.
