The Power of the Cross

“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.”

1 Corinthians 1:18

“The Power of the Cross” by Keith Getty

Oh, to see the dawn

Of the darkest day:

Christ on the road to Calvary.

Tried by sinful men,

Torn and beaten, then

Nailed to a cross of wood.

This, the pow’r of the cross:

Christ became sin for us;

Took the blame, bore the wrath—

We stand forgiven at the cross.

Oh, to see the pain

Written on Your face,

Bearing the awesome weight of sin.

Ev’ry bitter thought,

Ev’ry evil deed

Crowning Your bloodstained brow.

Now the daylight flees;

Now the ground beneath

Quakes as its Maker bows His head.

Curtain torn in two,

Dead are raised to life;

“Finished!” the vict’ry cry.

Oh, to see my name

Written in the wounds,

For through Your suffering I am free.

Death is crushed to death;

Life is mine to live,

Won through Your selfless love.

This, the pow’r of the cross:

Son of God—slain for us.

What a love! What a cost!

We stand forgiven at the cross.”

Easter Break

Please note on our school calendar that LCA will be closed for Easter Break starting next Friday, March 30, through Friday, April 6.  School will resume on Monday, April 9.  Our school office will also be closed during this break.

We trust that each of our families is considering re-enrolling at LCA for the coming school year.  Please remember that we offer a $45 discount on registration for each family whose forms and payment are received by Monday, April 9.

We encourage you to stop by the school and get more information about your child’s next grade.  By appointment, we can setup a time when you could observe this class and get an even better idea about what your child will be learning here this fall.

If you have any questions about the re-enrollment process, please contact Mrs. Kettlewood in our school office.

Picture Days

Next week, we will have two additional opportunities for your child to be professionally photographed.  First, on Monday, March 26, all students will have a class picture taken.  Students should wear their regular uniforms for this picture, and Lifetouch will provide a complimentary copy to each student.

Second, on Tuesday, March 27, students may have their picture taken for Spring Picture Day.  Order forms were sent home this week, and students who choose to be photographed may dress up for these pictures.  (Students who are not purchasing a picture should wear their regular school uniforms.)

Please contact our school office with any questions about our Lifetouch school picture program.

Busing Requests

If your family is planning to use public school busing services to LCA in the coming school year for children entering kindergarten (K5) through 12th grades, you must notify your district’s transportation office no later than April 1.  This is a hard deadline and requests made after this date will likely not be honored by your district.

We have some districts’ request forms available in our school office.  Please see Mrs. Kettlewood with any questions.

Easter Invitation

If you do not have a regular church home, you are invited to join in the Easter worship here at Latham Bible Baptist Church on Sunday morning, April 1.  A sunrise service will be held at 7:30 AM, followed by a breakfast and our regular Sunday school time.  Morning worship will be held at 10:45 AM under the leadership of Pastor Walter.

Please come out and join with us as we celebrate Easter Sunday and declare to the world, “He is risen!”
