Love – A More Excellent Way

“But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.”

1 Corinthians 12:31

The words above were written between a great section of the Bible about using spiritual gifts within our local churches and another about the vital importance of love.

This next chapter begins with a reminder that even if we could speak as eloquently as an angel but lacked the love of God, our words would be nothing more than the annoying sound of a lone brass instrument or that of a lonely clanging cymbal.

Our goal at Latham Christian Academy is to prepare our students spiritually, academically, socially, and emotionally to serve God with their entire lives.

A loving school environment is key to seeing that goal reached.  It is our desire to have a loving, nurturing atmosphere each day here.

Even when we, from time to time, must confront a student and challenge that student to do better, we always desire to be known as a loving school.  Ephesians 4:15 reminds all of us of the necessity of “speaking the truth in love” as we encourage others and grow in Christ ourselves.

John 13:35 tells us that the world around us will recognize Christ’s followers by our love for each other.  This love that will bear all things, believe through all things, hope in all things, and endure all things is key to reaching into a child’s heart and making an eternal difference.  This passage in 1 Corinthians 13 further reminds us that love will rejoice in truth.

As a school, we will continue to set the high goal of instructing our students with truth in love.  We desire to partner with each family in achieving this goal.  It is our prayer that the ministry of LCA will be characterized by and known for exactly this type of love.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

On Tuesday, November 8, school will be closed for students in K3 through grade 6. (This will be a regular school day for 7th through 12th grade students.)

On this day, our teachers will be meeting with the parents of their students. This is a required parent-teacher meeting where we can all get on the same page at the end of the first marking periods.

Please stop by or call our school office to make an appointment. Each appointment slot is about twenty minutes long, and they are available between 7:30 AM and 3:30 PM. Your child’s teacher is not scheduling the appointments; they will all be done through the office.

Even though these appointments may result in a necessity to change work schedules or make other accommodations for the day, we are confident the time invested in meeting one-on-one with your child’s teacher will make those adjustments very profitable.

Special Programs

I trust you will make plans even now to be here yourself and invite friends and family to be here for our special programs coming up in November and December.  The children will work very hard to prepare music and drama, and they love seeing those familiar and friendly faces in the auditorium.

K4 Thanksgiving Program: Thursday, November 17

K3 and K5 Christmas Program: Thursday, December 8

Elementary Christmas Program: Thursday, December 15

If you have any questions about these programs, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher.  All programs will begin at 7:00 PM and be held in our church auditorium.

Accreditation Update

Some of our families are likely aware that LCA is pursuing accreditation through the American Association of Christian Schools.  As a part of this process, a consultant from this national organization will be visiting our campus this coming Tuesday, October 25.  If you see Mr. Gary Peltier around, feel free to speak with him.

LCA is also in the final stages of pursuing accreditation through the New York Association of Christian Schools.  These are important steps to help us improve our educational processes here and to demonstrate the value of our program.  We will keep our families informed throughout the processes with both organizations.

Fire Extinguisher Training

This coming Wednesday, October 25, the Latham Fire Department will be returning to LCA to offer fire extinguisher training for students in grades 4-12.  This important safety instruction time will begin around 10:30.   During the training, parts of our parking lot will be closed to give the fire department room to work.

Pensacola Christian College

This coming Monday, October 24, a representative from Pensacola Christian College in Florida will be speaking in our elementary and secondary chapels.  Our parents are always welcome and encouraged to attend.  Secondary chapel will begin around 8:30, and the elementary chapel will start at 9:45 in our church auditorium.

Several of our teachers (Mrs. Coonrod, Mrs. Kupeyan, and Mrs. Mein) completed their degrees at PCC, and at least two of our graduates are current students there.  Please feel free to come by one of our chapel times if you would like any more information on the ministry of Pensacola Christian College.
