Finishing the Course

“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.”

2 Timothy 4:7-8

These words were written by the Apostle Paul when he knew he would be executed in likely only a few days as a martyr for Christ.  He realized that his course was nearly complete and that God had promised him a great reward.

We have now completed our course for this academic year.  Students have taken their last test, completed their last project, and even run their last lap in PE class.  It is interesting how much the Bible focuses on how we finish, not just the fact that we do finish.

Paul could thank the Lord for His grace that he had finished by keeping the faith entrusted to him.  It is the hope and prayer of each staff member at LCA that our students will hold on to what they have been taught here at school.  From our youngest students in Mrs. Mansfield’s K3 class, our students memorize the Bible and learn songs based on Scripture.  We desire for our students to quote those verses in their heads, especially when they are tempted to do something wrong or are discouraged for one reason or another.

We should also notice that God had promised Paul a reward for his faithfulness all the way to the end and that it is not just Paul who will receive this reward, but all those who faithfully waiting for the return of Christ.  LCA gives awards each year to recognize academic achievement, and it is proper that we do so, but this recognition from the same God who spoke the universe into existence will be so much greater than anything we would receive during our lives.

Here at the completion of another school year, we should remember the importance of faithful endings.  The Lord will reward us for how we finish, but it should always be our love for Him that motivates us most of all.  After all, we know that because we are empowered by His Holy Spirit, we will return each reward back to our Savior in gratitude for His great love for us!

Report Cards Issued

Report cards for all grades, K3 through 12th, will be available in our school office starting Tuesday morning, June 21.  We ask that parents stop by and pick up their report cards when the office is open, from 10:00 until 2:00.

Students in grades K5 through 11 will also receive their standardized testing results with their report cards.  Because our national association changed from the SAT (Stanford) tests to the Iowa tests, the results will look slightly different this year.  Please contact your child’s teacher or school administration if you have any questions about the results.

Our K3, K4, and K5 students will also receive a DVD-ROM full of pictures through the school year as well as either a DVD or Blu Ray of the end-of-year program or graduation as a special gift from us to help you cherish the memories of this school year.

Please remember that all financial accounts (including extended session, lunch, and end-of-year fees) must be paid in full before report cards or transcripts can be released.

Summer Office Hours

During the summer months, the school office will operate on reduced hours.  The office will be open most weeks on Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 until 2:00.  Of course, you can always contact us by email at  If you need to stop by at a time other than these, please call before coming so you can be sure someone will be here to assist you.

Re-Enrollment Reminder

Please remember that re-enrollment is not automatic.  If you have not already done so, your family will need to complete a re-enrollment application to hold a place for you this fall.  Please contact our school office if you have any questions.

Senior Commencement

All of our families are invited to our celebration of our high school graduation.  The Class of 2016 will graduate tonight (Friday evening) in the auditorium of Latham Bible Baptist Church.  Pastor Nathan Gardner of Grapeville Baptist Church will be delivering a challenge from God’s Word.  Each family who is able to be here will certainly receive a blessing.  A brief reception will also be held following the ceremony.

Awards Chapel/Last Day of School

Students in our elementary and secondary programs will be receiving their awards at a special chapel on Friday morning.  Students in Grades 1 through 6 will begin their program in the church auditorium around 8:45 AM, and students in Grades 7 through 12 will receive their awards starting around 10:45 AM.

Parents are both welcome and encouraged to attend these programs.  All students will be dismissed from school at 12:00 noon, and no extended session is available today.  We appreciate everyone’s help as we prepare for our graduation program in the evening.

Family Fun Night

Our full-day students recently had a chance to meet Southpaw, the mascot of the Valleycats minor league baseball team in Troy.  LCA is excited to partner with the Valleycats to help us raise money for our new playground.  Nearly half of the ticket price will be returned to LCA for our playground, and we know this will also be a fun evening to see LCA friends over the summer.

Make plans to join us on Friday, June 24, for the 7:00 PM game at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium in Troy.  Please purchase the tickets from our school office and let us know if you have any questions.
