A Valentine’s Love

“And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.”

1 Corinthians 13:13

All week, many of our students have brought in cards and candy for their classmates as we celebrate Valentine’s Day.

We all enjoy this cute day filled with wishes of “Be Mine!” and “Have a Heart!” shared from one child to another.

In the bigger picture, however, true love is much more significant that a cute card and some candy kisses given from one student to another. The Bible teaches us that Christians should be known for the love we show to each other.

The verse above even teaches us that true love (translated as charity in the King James Version) is greater than faith or hope. Love is the lynchpin of all we hold dear as Christians.

Through all of the candy, cards, stuffed animals, and flowers of this season, let’s dedicate ourselves anew to demonstrating the true, committed love of Christ. We have a lost and hurting world all around us. They need so desperately to see this love.

Basketball Season Concludes

We want to congratulate our Blue Knights and Lady Knights basketball teams on the completion of their seasons. The boys play their final game this afternoon against the Hoosac School in Hoosick Falls at 5:30. The girls had some injuries that forced us to shorten their season, but both teams saw many successes and opportunities to grow together as teams. We especially thank our coaches, Pastor Sam Kupeyan and Mr. Mike Henry, for their faithful service throughout the season.

Winter Break Begins Tomorrow

LCA will be closed for Winter Break starting tomorrow, Friday, February 12, through Monday, February 22. Please note that Winter Break is two days longer than usual this year because we are closed on the Friday before and the Monday after Presidents’ Day.

As always, if you have any questions about our schedule, please feel free to contact our school office.

Re-Enrollment Information for 2016-17

About two weeks ago, each of our families received an information packet from our office with details on starting the re-enrollment process. We do hope that each family will carefully pray and consider God’s will for their children’s education. We realize that it is a high honor to be entrusted with the education of each child enrolled in our academy. We also know that our system works best when families are able to follow the scope and sequence throughout our established program.

If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Kettlewood in our school office. Of course, if you know of others who may benefit from our Christ-centered curriculum and loving faculty and staff, please tell them about us.

New registration will begin after Winter Break, and we do not want any of our current families to be disappointed that there is no room for their child. All families wishing to return this fall must complete the re-enrollment process. If you need new copies of any information, please visit our website or contact Mrs. Kettlewood.

Bus Transportation

If you are planning on using public school bussing for your student this fall, or even considering doing so, it is critically important for you to contact your local transportation department as soon as possible.

New York policy requires parents to notify their local districts no later than April 1 with a request for transportation. If you miss this deadline, you probably will not be able to receive transportation to school.

If you need contact information, please see Mrs. Kettlewood or Mrs. Mein. Some districts have provided us with forms to be completed as well.

Science Fair / Open House

Please make plans now to be with us on Thursday evening, March 10, starting at 7:00, for our annual drop-in open house. Our theme this year is Passport to the World, and each child attending will receive a special gift. We will also have snacks and activities throughout our building that night, including a science fair in our gym.

Each student in 1st through 12th grades will be expected to complete a project for this science fair. You will be receiving more information about this in the next couple of weeks. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s science teacher.

We are looking forward to a fun evening and hope that each current family and perhaps many new ones will join us for this trip “around the world” right here on our school campus.

Secondary Fine Arts

Students in grades 7 through 12 will be competing at the state fine arts festival to be held in Binghamton on Friday, March 4. LCA students interested in entering in speech, preaching, digital photography, crafts, singing, instrumental music, or any other category should contact Mrs. O’Rourke for more information.

We are looking forward to an exciting day at Central Baptist Christian School in Binghamton with other New York Association of Christian Schools ministries.

Students in grades 4 through 6 will hold their competition here at LCA on Friday, May 6. We will be sending out more information on this special day in the coming weeks.
